A fun monthly group
Many get to Buddhism by way of the Twelve Steps. We saw some similarities between the two traditions, so we set up a group to explore them.

Our goal with this is to learn, think, and have some fun.

What it looks like
The first Sunday of the month, for 12 months:

  • We sit for a bit.
  • Somebody excellent talks about a Step, bringing in Buddhist concepts.
  • We discuss.

Next up: Laura B.
Laura B. (Step 10) is a lay teacher in the Soto Zen tradition who lectures and leads retreats at different practice centers in Northern California.  Her monthly column “Is That So?” appears on the San Francisco Zen Center website.

New workshop! Working with Difficult Emotions with Renshin B.
Greed, Anger, and Delusion, the traditional “three poisons” of Buddhism, are deeply ingrained in us. While they can be a problem for anyone, for people in recovery they can threaten our very lives. In this workshop, we will examine these tendencies throught the lens of traditional Buddhist teachings.

When: Sunday, August 23rd, 1:30 to 5:30 pm
Where: San Francisco Buddhist Center/37 Bartlett Street at 21st
Who: Renshin B. will be leading, a Zen priest who is 30 years sober in AA
How much: $20 registration plus dana for the teacher
How to sign up: Email weeks.twelve@gmail.com
